Through the examination of the
evolution of Yahoo! sites, we
discuss lessons learned about web user interface design. We note interesting observations
on users and discuss methodologies complementary to user testing to gather data that
enables us to better design for users.

surfing the web.

Instructors
David Shen is the Director of Design at Yahoo! Inc., an Internet media company where he
leads Yahoo! graphic, user interface, and usability design. Prior to Yahoo! He was a
product designer at frogdesign and at Apple Computer. Irene Au is the Interaction Design
Manager at Yahoo! Inc. where she works with the Yahoo! teams on usability testing and
interaction design of Yahoo! properties. Prior to Yahoo!, she was an interaction designer
at Netscape Communications where she worked on the Netscape 4 and 5 interfaces. Brian
Buschmann is a Senior Designer at Yahoo! Inc. and leads the graphic user interface design
of personalized, communication, and entertainment content sites. Prior to Yahoo!, he was
designing web sites in Italy and doing graphic design at Yamamoto/Moss
in Minneapolis.
