Sunday 09:00 - 17:30.
Chris Stary, University of Linz, Austria
Gerrit C. van der Veer, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Benefits
Gain an in-depth understanding of
user-centered and task-based user
interface analysis, design, and
prototyping from a conceptual and methodological perspective. The two complementary approaches
of Group Taskware Analysis (GTA) and Task Analysis, Design, End User Systems (TADEUS) will be
integrated, based on
a consistent conceptual framework and matching analysis and specification tools.
Origins
New for CHI 99. Both authors
have taught parts of this tutorial in
universities and summer schools,
and for industrial audiences.
Features
- introduction to user-centered system development
- GTA - task analysis for complex systems
- hands-on experience with task modeling from task analysis to task-based design
- TADEUS task-based design
- task-based prototyping and evaluation
Audience
Beginning developers of interactive
systems will get an introduction to a combination of integrated techniques, while seasoned
professionals will acquire a consistent set of methods
and tools.
Presentation
Lecture-style introductions, small project team exercises, and hands-on experience.
Instructors
Chris Stary is a full professor at the Department of Business Information Systems,
University of Linz. He
developed the TADEUS framework, methodology, and design environment. Gerrit C. van der Veer is a
Reader in Interactive Systems at the Department of Computer Science, Vrije Universiteit,
Amsterdam, and is the originator of the GTA approach.
