Instructor
Susan M. Dray has a Ph.D. in Psychology and has worked as a researcher, manager, and consultant in the design and use of technology at Honeywell, Inc., American Express Financial Advisors and, for the past six years, as an independent consultant. She has published numerous articles and is a Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES).

Instructors
Wendy Mackay received her Ph.D. from MIT, and has worked as a designer and manager responsible for more than 30 multimedia products and the industry's first interactive video computer system. She has managed multimedia research and development groups at Digital, MIT, and Xerox EuroPARC. Formerly a Professor at University of Paris-Sud, she is currently a visiting professor at Aarhus University. Anne-Laure Fayard received her Ph.D. from the University of Paris. She is currently a research scientist at EDF, where she conducts participatory research using video.

The instructors developed Contextual Design, a customer-centered design process that extends the contextual inquiry data gathering technique. Dr. Holtzblatt originated the Contextual Inquiry approach to field data collection and pioneered its introduction into working engineering teams. She has used customer-centered processes to design and evaluate software, hardware, and business processes. Hugh Beyer has worked in the industry as a programmer, architect, and consultant. He has designed and developed object-oriented repositories and integrated CASE systems, and has developed processes for using customer data to drive object-oriented design.

Tom Dayton has invented participatory methods, and has used and taught them in several companies and at several conferences. He is the Senior Usability Engineer in Sun Microsystems Usability Labs and Services. Michael Muller is a researcher at Lotus, working on technological support of human-human collaboration; on analysis, representation, and support of skilled work; and on participatory practices in work contexts.
